Commander Keen, the game that made id

In 1993, when I was seven years old, our family's computer was a 386. I guess it was a decent machine for its day, it was a commodore ibm compatible with a Gravis UltraSound soundcard. My parents used mainly the word processing program, and I of course played games. Two of the first games I ever played was Commander Keen 4: Secret of the oracle, and Keen dreams, both shareware. Later I acquired the full versions of 5 and 6 as well. Although we had other games, these were my favorites, they were just so much fun, and they still are. Chances are that you, as a visitor of a site about old computer games, know pretty well what a floppy disk is. I think most people in the world who have ever used a computer, have some idea of what it is. The soon to be extinct media, was immensely popular in its various forms from the 70's, to the late 90's. Ron Gilberts Pirates!

The idea to make a witty game about pirates, was conceived by Ron Gilbert, as early as Maniac Mansion, and in fact, the plan was to start work on that, right after mm`s release. But the pirates had to wait two more years, mainly because of the man with the hat and whip. But in October 1990, the pirates was ready to set sail, and at the same time, become a classic in video game history. The game is the Secret of Monkey Island. Read more...
